John Ed De Vera is a multidisciplinary artist who specialises in lettering, paper-cutting and experimenting with different medias.
The reason why I like Vera’s work so much is, by the way, he uses layering and shadows under the paper to portray depth. I also like the simple shapes he uses as I feel it enhances the playful feel of the work.
If I do create a poster to raise awareness on a social action project, I would definitely experiment with paper layering. I feel the overall finish is very eye-catching and playful and this would help to bring across a change in an uncomfortable topic. I can also exercise the use of semiotics in my work by using simple symbols.
